I'm about 20,000 words into Morning Glories, and did some research on kinks I'm not as familiar with. I think I'm going to write a shorter book than Locked, more like 40k. And I would get more done if the weather wasn't so beautiful, leading to incidents like this:
Riley: -typing away at novella-
Friends: "Riley! Come to the beach with us!"
Riley: -looks at screen, looks at bathing suit- "Coming!"
At least I got to work on my tan.
Anyway, JA Konrath recently had Melinda DuChamp on his blog to talk about erotica. I read a few negative comments saying BDSM erotica is "mommy porn" and just a fad. And yeah, BDSM in literature is at an usual high point; it's the flavor of the moment and I don't expect it to stay that way forever. But it's hot because people can view it on ereaders with no one the wiser. Buy it from your Kindle and no one can tell you're a bondage lover from your computer.
But I really love this wave, because it makes me feel normal for once for liking bondage. I've showed The Locked Boy to several people, and they came back saying the sadomasochistic scenes were great. Maybe more people have secret, kinky fantasies than I realized.
